Barbara Applegete was born on October 30, 1954. Applegate spent her early years living along the Delaware River where it meanders through the Lehigh Valley and Bucks County in Pennsylvania. She attended Blair Academy in New Jersey and later graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
A self-taught artist, Applegate has never received any academic training. However, she is the third generation of artists in her family...."I can't remember a time when paper and pencil, charcoal and brushes were not a part of my immediate environment."
Applegate has received more than one hundred awards for her watercolor and oil paintings including awards for merit from the National Arts Club, Knickerbocker Artists, Salmagundi Club, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club and the Gold Medal from the American Artists Professional League.
Barbara Applegate is represented by galleries throught the United States and is published by the New York Graphic Society. She lives and works on a small 1780 farm in the charming village of Bristol Mills on the Pemaquid Peninsula.
