We are located in the village of Bristol Mills, on route 130 , six miles south of
Damariscotta on the way to the Pemaquid Lighthouse Park.

Recipient of numerous national awards for excellence including the Gold Medal from the American Artist Professional League, New York; Barbara Applegate has been exhibited throughout the United States in various juried exhibitions and public museums.  Raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Applegate's earliest memories include visits to studios of the many artists living and painting along the Delaware River between Center Bridge and New Hope. Influenced by the Bucks County painters, Daniel Garber, Edward W. Redfield and Walter Schofield, her landscape and still life paintings capture ordinary moments in the day, filling them with light.

Education

Barbara Applegete was born on October 30, 1954.  Applegate spent her early years living along the Delaware River where it meanders through the Lehigh Valley and Bucks County in Pennsylvania.  She attended Blair Academy in New Jersey and later graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

A self-taught artist, Applegate has never received any academic training.  However, she is the third generation of artists in her family...."I can't remember a time when paper and pencil, charcoal and brushes were not a part of my immediate environment."

Collections
Barbara Applegate's paintings are found in hundreds of private and public collections in the United States and abroad.  A partial list of public and corporate collections includes Dickinson College, Colby College, Williams College, the University of Pennsylvania, Oberlin College, MBNA America, Proctor and Gamble Company, Viceroy and Mank Ltd., and Aztec Printing.
Awards

Applegate has received more than one hundred awards for her watercolor and oil paintings including awards for merit from the National Arts Club, Knickerbocker Artists, Salmagundi Club, the Philadelphia Watercolor Club and the Gold Medal from the American Artists Professional League.

Barbara Applegate is represented by galleries throught the United States and is published by the New York Graphic Society.  Applegate's love of travel provides her with limitless opportunities to paint  the intimate aspects of everyday life in Greek fishing villages, provincial France, Tuscan hillsides as well as the varied scenery of the United States.  She lives and works on a small 1830 farm in the charming village of Bristol Mills on the Pemaquid Peninsula.
